Fishing on Lake Arrowhead

As a kid, my sanctuary was the water. If it was summer, the water was the Pacific Ocean. If it was fall or spring, the water was Lake Arrowhead. I loved to fish the waters of Arrowhead.

When we lived in the mountains, we lived in a house that had lake rights and a dock. You see, Lake Arrowhead is a private lake. So to be able to be on the water, you had to live in a house that had “lake rights”. We had them, so for me (an avid and amateur fisherman), lake rights was a real treat!

When I was 11, I asked for, and got, an inflatable boat for Christmas. Now, as inflatable boats go, this boat was the creme de la creme (please excuse my inability to add the proper punctuation to this saying).

I caught many a fish on that boat - my fellow fishing buddies and Jensen’s grinder in tow. Truth be told, my first fish is still safely frozen in our freezer at home.

So, as we head into this Labor Day Weekend, we’re going to take a few days to unplug, unwind and become one again with the mountain air of Home. We’re going to listen to the whisper of the wind as it weaves its way through the pine trees. We’re going to wake up to the call of the Blue Jays as it tells the world words that only he knows. We’re going to get those grinders from Jensens and sit on our deck and watch the water of Lake Arrowhead below us ebb and flow with the fish of today as they nibble and tease the lures of the fisherman, young and old.
