The Joys of August

August is a neat month.

In our family, August has a lot going for it. For us, the heart of summer is August. It always represented the last month of scholarly freedom, back to school shopping, and sporadic summer rain storms. We used to read and swim for hours - relaxation at its finest being in the beach and pool with nothing but the sunshine and breeze during the day, and ice cream sundaes and hide-and-go-seek at night.

Ya, it was tough

August is also the month of our dad, Jessica and Bryan’s birthdays. The tradition of being at the beach, with a delicious dinner, cake and presents has always been a fun day to look forward to.

Finally, August is the entrance to fall. The decorations are peeking out, the weather is hinting (although only slightly) to beginning to turn cooler, the nights are turning darker sooner and the mornings are staying darker longer. Everything is whispering to sweater weather getting ready to come out and play.

But for now, the heat and the festivities continue, and we sit in the warm contemplation of the autumn season to come greet us when it’s ready.
