Poor Steve – he was a gruesome looking shark that was simply misunderstood.
This was back in 2010. And in the near decade and a half since Steve’s inception, he’s been featured on men’s and women’s tee shirts, unisex fleece hooded sweaters, and foam mesh caps. But, we will admit, that the size of graphics back in the 2010s are a lot larger than what’s in style in the 2020s. Fashions change, what’s popular changes and most importantly, what’s wanted changes.
So, instead of getting rid of Steve because he was too large to be in charge anymore, we decided to keep him… but make him a smaller version of himself.
And so entered Respect. This design is small, sweet and easy to wear with Steve scaled down to fit as a small chest hit on the left breast, instead of across the whole chest. This updated version of Steve demands the respect that sharks are due – to Respect the Locals and remember that our playground is their home.
What makes this design even more special is… well… it’s famous. If you’re an Amazon Prime member, or have seen The Terminal List in its entirety, then you saw Taylor Kitsch in the last few episodes of Season 1 wearing a navy blue mesh hat with a shark on it.
You guessed it – Taylor Kitsch (Ben Edwards on the show) was in fact wearing the Vivix 659 Respect mesh cap – reminding everyone to Respect the Locals.]]>Because the “yard” sold so much product from a particular stone company, our parents were gifted a trip to Hawaii for our whole family. In April of 1990, we all boarded an American Airlines plane and flew direct to Maui. When we arrived, we showed up fresh from California with plans to soak up the sun and the Hawaiian adventures.
This picture shows your Vivix 659 team as little people: April 1990. From left to right: Jessica (age 8), Molly (age 5), Josh (age 11). We were posed by our mom in front of a magnificent waterfall that was the epitome of what we had in our head as a tropical paradise. And it was. What a beautiful place.
What you don’t see from this picture is that this day was the only non-raining day of the whole 7 days we were there. Understand – this storm was the worst rainstorm in a century! 6 days. Rain, rain and more rain. This rain was so bad that the water slide and pool were shut down. For 6 days. Nonetheless, this picture is one of my favorites. It shows the close relationship between my brother, sister and myself. Our whole lives, we’ve been 3 peas in a pod, always there for each other and ready to start new adventures together. And with Vivix 659, we’re there for you to help you grow in your adventures and Wear the Life You Love.]]>When we introduced our Vivix 659 golfing segment, I drew inspiration not only from my current love of spending early mornings on the course; but, also from that summer in college. As a couple of kids working in the cart corral, it was a no brainer that Vivix 659’s first design should be a golf cart: the design you know to be Riggs. I’m not lying when I say the Riggs is my favorite golf design. Is it because it’s more detailed or better looking than our other golf inspired designs? No, it’s not. But it carries a nostalgia for me that few other designs can.
Since Riggs tee shirt was first introduced, we’ve expanded our golf cart offerings. If a large, front print of a golf cart is not your style, then the Lomax would be perfect for you! Very similar to the Riggs, the Lomax is a small golf cart rendition on the left chest that offers a playful representation of your favorite pastime. And if you’re looking for something to add to your car, laptop, or reusable water container, or even to give as a fun little gift, the Riggs sticker is a perfect addition to any golfers’ collection.

Every time I see a customer pick Riggs or Lomax tee shirts for their own collection, I smile at the memories of that summer on the golf course with my two best friends, smell that sweet grass at the cart corral and fall even more in love with the game of golf.]]>

St. Phillip’s Church is one such example of these church steeples. This beautiful Anglican Church, which is one of the oldest churches in North America (original construction was in 1680), is capable of seating 800 people. Although St. Phillip’s church currently sits on Church Street, it was originally built on the southwest corner of Broad and Meeting Streets, but it was too small. In 1723, a new church was constructed in its current location (Church Street); however, that church burned down over a century later in 1835. In 1838, the St. Phillip’s Church we see on Church Street today was rebuilt and stands as a stunning landmark of Charleston‘s skyline. Add the Vivix 659 Phillip’s tee shirt to your collection today and be ready for your next Charleston walking tour!

History and religious tolerance are just some historical aspects of this southern gem. With its easy access to the Atlantic and protected inshore waters, there is a reason there are so many sail boats in Charleston’s Harbor. Can you think of a more memorable way to experience the Holy City? A sailor, experienced or a novice, can anchor in Charleston, live in the marina, and even sail (to a certain extent) the Intracoastal Waterway. When you pair these fantastic sailing conditions with the up close and personal view of the Battery, Charleston skyline and the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge (which opened in the summer of 2005 and is the longest cable-stayed bridge in North American AND the tallest structure in South Carolina), you are guaranteed to be one happy sailor! Get your Vivix 659 Ravenel tee shirt today for your next getaway (or if you just need a little taste of Charleston’s vibes)!

It’s difficult for those of us who don’t live in a place like Charleston to understand the depth of historical significance that is present in a place like the Holy City. Places with military significance like Fort Sumter (the place where the first shot of the Civil War was fired); Dayton Hall (the oldest preserved plantation house in America); Magnolia Cemetery (the oldest cemetery in Charleston dating back to 1849); and the Battery. In a simple sentence, the Battery is 2 man made defensive seawalls that runs all the way from the southern tip of Charleston’s peninsula to the Cooper and Ashley Rivers that form Charleston’s Harbor. It is named for the Civil War artillery battery that still stands with antique cannons. Make sense? Ya, we’re confused, too - but for those of us not well versed in military tactics, the Battery is also the place of stately Antebellum homes. And to us, the beauty of their architecture and the view of the water makes perfect sense! Pick up your Vivix 659 Battery tee shirt today!

]]>Upcycle: Reused (of discarded objects or materials) in such a way as to create a product of higher quality or value than the original.
With every new season comes a new line of clothing. Many decisions are made with each new season. For example, we evaluate what new styles should be added to the incoming line; what styles and designs should be discontinued moving forward; and, what styles and designs should be expanded on with new colors. After all of these tough, and often time-consuming decisions are settled, we schedule trips to our various fabric houses.
To us, this is when the real fun begins! But as much fun as it is to go to the place that makes or houses beautiful fabrics, it is also very over whelming. When we’re at the fabric house, we look through hundreds of swatches of fabrics – from jersey and ribbing, to flannel and french terry - to find the ones that are living in our imaginations. Sometimes those imaginary fabrics are easy to find, and we go to production on them. Other times, they are impossible to find. In instances such as these, we design and produce the imagined fabrics to create the perfect, one of a kind Vivix 659 piece. And, other times still, the perfect raw fabric is just sitting at the fabric house forgotten, just waiting for us to come and swoop it up – rescuing it to our warehouse to make something beautiful with it.
In cases like these, it is necessary to understand the importance of this aspect of what we do here at Vivix 659. We are not simply “buying” fabric to make a top or bottom with. We are, in fact, purchasing raw materials that were otherwise discarded, abandoned and deemed useless to the point that they would (more likely than not) be thrown away, only to end up in a landfill. Here at Vivix 659, we have saved thousands of yards of various fabrics from polluting the Earth by keeping it out of our landfills and finding the beauty and optimization of small batch production.
In essence, our American made styles, more often than not, are produced in fabric that has been upcylced into a garment that are both interesting and unexpected. Unique, in every sense of the word.
Go you, Earth 🌎 Child!

We’re highlighting two new styles from our Spring ‘21 Collection, the Baxter Tee and our Wenham, corduroy short. Take a few minutes and see why this combination is a great choice for the unpredictable spring weather.
]]>Our classic style is what you’ve come to expect from a short: a zipper fly and button closer with a traditional waistband, belt loops, and reverse welt pockets.
La Jolla, Dougie and Ramrod fall under this category
Our retro short is more relaxed with a drawstring waist, two front slash pockets, and one reverse pouch pocket.
Gozer, Wake, Tafolla, and Taylor would be examples of this style
Today, I want to highlight our retro short, and tell you why I think a pair belongs in every man’s closet:
We offer our retro shorts in a signature fit, and in a variety of fabric choices – corduroy, twill, brushed flannel, chambray, etc...
You can dress them up or down; and, however you want to wear them, one thing is for sure: you’re going to look sharp either way!

From the airport (Orlando and Fort Lauderdale are both really nice), to the tropical feel of the state, it's as if you're in Hawaii without flying over an ocean; at least that's true when you're flying from California - which we are.
If you've never been to Florida, there's a lot to see there. Here are a few of our favorite places.
Now, we've driven the whole state, top to bottom, and there are some places that we like more than others. For starters, Orlando has the whole Disney World vibe, which gives it instant cool points. So we like Orlando. Plus, it's family and resort style friendly, so you can literally stay in one place.
Back in the day, we were big Ghost Hunter Fans. Ya, we know - it was all probably staged and fake, but we had a good time watching it. We grew up in a haunted house, but that's a story for another time... Wednesday nights were great for take out Mexican food, Jason and Grant and ghosts. One of our favorite episodes was of the haunted Saint Augustine Lighthouse. It was a cool episode and the lighthouse seemed to have a lot of history. So when we drove by it and saw it in real life, it become one of those places we put on our list of places to visit in Florida. We think it would be a place you would like.
Sarasota
Overall, Sarasota was our favorite place to go. The town was unique, the architecture was historical and the people were fun and different. There was a whole Amish part of town with tasty pastries and foods different to anything we're used to.
Out in CA, we're experts in burritos, tacos, beans, rice, Del Taco and In and Out. So all these different cultures was cool to be a part of.
Now, if we had a choice, we would stay at the Ritz Carlton, Sarasota. If we stayed there during the middle of July, a room would run you around $700.00. We would be down for that, any day. We're ready to go! How about you?
Join us next month when we go north to see what Maine has to offer. See you then!
We're going to take you on an adventure with us - we're going to go to a new place each week, stay at the best hotels, eat the best food, go on the coolest tourist attractions, and maybe the not so touristy attractions, hang like a local and be treated like a royal.
Why?
Because there are so many cool places in the world, let's figure out where we want to go together.
First stop?
Florida.
Get ready, we leave on Tuesday, April 3.

It was a surreal experience and couldn't imagine being in New York on September 11, 2001. Never Forget, and take a second today to hug your loved ones.
